Shelby County reaps the rewards of a prime location and of a stable yet vital economy characterized by obvious growth and expansion. Situated in the auspicious "Golden Triangle" (which includes Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati), Shelby County benefits from the abundant and lucrative opportunities afforded by the area. As a result, Shelby has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. Tourism, a major industry, generated over 21 million dollars last year with a consistent 2% increase sustained over the past few years as more and more people discover the beauty of the Bluegrass Region. Small local businesses are eagerly supported by the community and have blossomed as a result. Downtown service related industries in particular have shown an increase in revenue of 35%.

A growing healthy economy has been one of the key factors in attracting new business into the area. The past few years have witnessed a steady influx of corporate giants that cover a wide economic range from technology and tourism to retail and banking. Cracker Barrel, Tumbleweed, allNET Technologies, Shelby Trust and Holiday Inn Express are just a few of the new businesses that have recently joined the Oldham County economic infrastructure. Such tangible expansion has ignited the local employment possibilities and has resulted in the creation of over 450 jobs over the past 3 years.

With such a consistent pattern of growth, the future of Oldham County looks bright. The marked attributes of this diverse, safe and vital community are being felt throughout the county drawing more and more people to share in the positive and enriching quality of life.

The greater Louisville metropolitan area with a population of over 1.2 million people reflects the economic affluence of the surrounding counties. Tourism is an ever-growing industry creating new jobs and generating revenue. Last year tourists spent nearly 1.2 billion dollars in Jefferson County. Over 26,000 jobs were directly generated as a result making tourism the third largest revenue producing industry in the county.

However, tourism represents only one thread in the economic fiber of Louisville. The city has a largely diversified fiscal infrastructure that includes several vital industries. Famous for its Kentucky style bourbon, Louisville is the distillery center for Brown-Forman Inc. known for Old Forester and Jack Daniel's. Manufacturing also plays a significant role in the Louisville economy. The Ford Motor Company has two local manufacturing plants in the area which employ over 10,0000 workers. It is also the home base for General Electric's Appliance Park, which employs over 5,800 workers. In addition, Louisville is the center for several major medical research facilities including Kleinert Kutz and the Jewish Hospital Heart Care Unit. With Louisville International Airport just seven minutes from downtown Louisville and its prime central location with easy access to trade routes, interstates and waterways, the region has become the home base for several large corporations. United Parcel Service operates its main cargo hub from Louisville International. In addition, Yum! Brands and Papa John's International both have corporate centers in the area.

Real Estate Tips

Agency >Beneficial Brokers

Homebuyers who use the Internet to start their home search may be lured by the promises of realty companies advertising "one-stop shopping" guaranteed to meet all your housing needs. But before you sign up with an online company, consider the benefits of meeting personally with a real estate agent or broker who can represent your best interests in the transaction.

A full service real estate broker will be informed about the current trends in your local market. He or she will personally show you properties that satisfy your unique requirements. When you want to discuss your options for a home mortgage loan, your broker will refer you to a reputable mortgage professional who can help you choose a loan that meets your specific needs. Your broker will have a working relationship with home inspectors and homeowner's insurance companies whose professional integrity they can vouch for. Online "one-stop" companies profit from handling all aspects of a transaction, but the homebuyer may not receive adequate personal attention or get the best deal. It is to your advantage to engage the services of a real estate agent or broker, because their sole motive is to protect and guide you during the complex process of buying property.
